The Dailies: March 13

Daily Person

Chris Reddish, of Park City, Utah, is a lighting director and photographer working for IFC.

What are you excited about seeing this year?
Well I’m a photographer and I’m gonna shoot a lot of live music. Music is more what I’m excited about for the festival. The Drive By Truckers are going to be playing in our studio. I’m excited to see Cracker. Being a part of this studio is pretty cool; we’re shooting interviews with filmmakers, nominees, and directors, and actors and we have 8 HD cameras we’re gonna be shooting music with.

What brand-sponsored parties are you looking forward to?
I’m going to the C3 party I hope.  C3 is a big promotional company here in town.

Have any promotional items or events stood out to you so far?
I was excited to see freecreditreport.com be a part of our studio just because I like their commercials. But otherwise there’s so much that goes on at a film festival. I would be happy to see people try to be green with plastic bottles and refillable water, stuff like that. In my mind I think that’s a really great thing for a film festival to do. A film festival like this could really make an effort to be green in public.

If you go to a branded party, are you more likely to use their product?
Well yeah, certainly. I think that seeing a product that’s sponsoring a party can certainly bring attention to it. If it’s green or if it’s an environmentally-aware product, of course.

Daily Shirt

Bright blue seems to be a popular color for interactive business fashion. One guy was wearing a bright blue t-shirt and the other had one on hand to change into later.  It was good to see a shirt for OtherInbox, an email consolidation service, because we photographed one as part of our coverage last year. Back then their logo was bright blue instead of purple. reMail is also an email servicing start-up.

Daily Branding

Girls in white, all in high-heels, handed out water bottles on a street corner across from the Convention Center. The sticker on the bottle seemed to reference “link juice” but the girls kept mentioning “who links to me.” It was unclear what service the company provides, butwe’re guessing it has to do with page rankings. But hydration is important, and the ladies in white had no trouble unloading water and small stickers on the convention center crowd.

Daily Namedrop

The booming trend at SXSW Interactive this year is “location based applications.” For the digital scavenger hunters there’s foursquare, which grants achievement badges, both digital and wearable, to smart phone users who complete certain tasks or unlock features based around city attractions, restaurants, and even their romantic encounters.
